Berrow's Barque

The SS Nornen has been a feature of Berrow Beach in Somerset since 1897 when it ran aground during a storm. It's a hard subject to photograph because of the massive 13 metre tidal range of the River Severn which submerges the shipwreck and most of the beach twice a day. Photographing the shipwreck during a receding tide that coincided with sunset was the best way to ensure I could get the colourful sky I wanted as well as stay safe while taking the photograph. I had to pay several visits to the wreck before I came away with a picture I was happy with.

'Berrow's Barque' is also available as a greeting card.
