The House Wot Jack Built

Dinorwic Slate Quarry, Snowdonia

Gallery: Wales

I was amazed by Dinorwic Slate Quarry, it's a remnant of the past when slate quarrying thrived in north Wales. Now it is left to be quietly reclaimed by nature as trees and foliage grow up and around bits of rusting machinery and the shells of quarry workers' cottages. I was struck by the contrast here - how the grey of the slate stands out from the greens of the surrounding foliage. Who lived here? What was their life like?
