West Woods, Wiltshire

Gallery: Wiltshire

Having taken a break from bluebell hunting last year, this year I made one trip to West Woods. A forecast of heavy overhead cloud didn't clear for three hours so I trudged from 5am until 8am in dull light, taking in most of the woods until I grew slightly sick of the sight of blue, brown and green. It wasn't until I was back to the car that the cloud broke and dappled sunlight separated the sea of trees. I returned to this quiet corner on the edge of the woods to make a picture. Standing on a tree stump allowed me an extra foot of height and a cloud overhead muted the sunlight slightly, creating some gentle contrast.
