The Hawthorn tree in this image has been my arboreal muse on Wavering Down since I noticed it several years ago. I have made several images of it with Crook Peak in the background but on this day the view to the south was too good to resist. It was taken in early summer while the countryside looked fresh and vibrant. A strong westerly wind was bringing with it a storm and the clouds in this scene were the precursor to that. The action in the sky seemed to be mirrored by the movement and shape of the tree and it was this unison that I felt held the scene together compositionally.
