Crook Peak, Somerset

Mountains on the Levels

It is rare for mist to envelope the Somerset Levels to the extent that it covers the M5 and surrounds Crook Peak. This photograph was taken on an October morning with perfect conditions; there was no wind, a clear sky overhead and a blanket of fog over the fields below. I was standing on Brent Knoll, the small but prominent hill a few miles south and west of Crook Peak, watching the sun rise to the east and cast glorious sunshine over the scene. These are the autumn mornings I savour.
