Autumn at Quarts Moor

Quarts Moor has quickly become one of my favourite woods in Somerset for autumn colours. This photograph was taken at the peak of the season as a storm was approaching. It was windy and drizzly, meaning that daylight was in short supply. The muted light of the afternoon was perfect for the subject matter though, and I didn't mind the windy conditions because it created movement in the branches of the trees. I used this to my advantage by taking a long exposure several seconds long, allowing the leaves to appear blurred in a painterly fashion while the mature beech trees were static.
